Ananda Soul is a small company in Bali that ethically makes handmade jewelry from the highest quality gold-plated silver and (semi) precious stones.
SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
Ananda Soul's core intention – to change the world a little – is carried through into all their creations by offering transparency and insight into working with the most ethical and sustainable production practices possible.
Being aware of the impression they leave on the world is one of their biggest focuses. They use only precious metals already circulating on the planet and avoid adding additional toxicity to our world.
ETHICAL PRODUCTION
Ananda Soul works with two Bali-based production houses, one based in Denpasar and one in the craft and silver village of Celuk.
Both production sites are as committed to ethical working practices as they are.
They ensure and monitor their adherence to fair working conditions, offering fair working hours, paid time off, health and life insurance, and even accommodations for non-local team members, along with childcare for working mothers.
In a small family compound in the village of Celuk, much of the magic happens – the beautification and the assembly.
They ensure fair working conditions at every stage of our production.
Craftsmen are an important part of Bali's traditional communities.
One place where you can find a particular group of artisans is in Celuk Village, where silversmiths have been practicing their crafts for decades. Arts and crafts are an important part of Balinese culture, and among the artisans is a community of highly skilled silversmiths. Jewelers here use traditional methods to produce their unique style of silverware.
It is not often that these skills are explicitly performed by women. That's why we're even more captivated by the talent of the women working in the Ananda Soul production.
The production in Denpasar is where our wax makers are located and where the casting and plating process of our jewelry takes place.
Moreover, our beaded and braided designs are all put together by mothers of street children in Denpasar.
SUPPORTING LOCAL FAMILIES
For the past ten years, Ananda Soul has worked with local women who earn a living by begging on the streets of Denpasar.
In addition, they donate 10% of all proceeds to the Bali Children Foundation to help bring education to impoverished regions of Bali.
RECYCLED SILVER AND PRECIOUS METALS
The core of this jewelry is made from high-quality, certified recycled 925 sterling silver and comes from a German company that refines their metals using environmentally friendly methods.
They choose the recycled silver path, which means no additional mining is required to create our products. Metal mining generally comes at a high cost to our planet and humanity – leading to erosion, the contamination of groundwater and soil through the use of chemicals as part of the mining process, the loss of biodiversity, damage to the landscape, human rights violations and child labor.
The 925 sterling silver means that it is a combination of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloys to strengthen the metal.
The alloy we use is copper from Germany and is 100% nickel free. Like all silver jewelry, 925 recycled sterling silver will discolor over time. Any darkening or discoloration that occurs is usually caused by oxidation. This is a normal process and will happen to all silver jewelry over time. It can be caused by various factors such as humidity, sweat, cosmetics or diet.
GOLD VERMEIL
The 22kt Gold Vermeil items are sterling silver pieces that are plated with 22kt gold.
Unfortunately, gold-plated liquids are not yet available from recycled gold, but Ananda Soul is constantly looking for when this will become an option.
Gold Vermeil is not solid gold and must be handled with care to maintain its quality.
It wears differently on each person depending on diet, climate, use of cosmetics and lifestyle.
BLESSINGS FROM BALI
As the final and important step in our production cycle, all our jewelry is blessed during a Balinese ceremony before being sent out into the world.
We as a team meet once a month under the guidance of a Balinese priest to gather affirmations, prayers, good intentions and energy to breathe life and blessings into our designs. Our prayer is that our jewelry will uplift and bring joy to every person who touches it.
